The Village
Local
Very much a village local, the Plough is a pub that does food, not a restaurant with a bar. Friendly
and welcoming at all times, you will find us at the centre of the village and at the centre of village life.
***STOP PRESS*** The Plough
has been awarded Pub of the Year by the newly independent Rutland Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale.
"I was as pleased as Punch to hear the news" said Ian, the Landlord of the Plough, "especially as the
competition seemed extemely tough this year.
All of my staff, from Didier, Sam, Josh & Jess, the Kitchen porters
through the chefs, Matt & Louis & Jane the cleaner to Steph, Anne and Stacey who are the public face at the Plough were
thrilled when they heard the news.
It shows that the hard work that they all put in has been recognised and rewarded.
All we have to do now, is keep up the high standards of Beer, Food, Hygiene and Service to maintain our reputation as the
best."
Artist at the Plough Sarah Watson, the
daughter of one of our neighbours recently asked me if there was a possibility of displaying a few of her 'daubs'.
Always being a little wary of self-confessed artists, I was delighted to see that the results far exceeded my expectations.
Even more impressed when they started to sell!
See for yourself, on the wall of the dining room, before they
are all gone. The picture here really does not do them justice. (Extended until May21st)
Dog
Friendly
We are always delighted
to meet our customers dogs. They are welcome in the bar and the garden at all times, however we do not allow dogs in the dining
room.
Our full menu is available in the bar and garden, so there is no need to miss out

Cask Ale News
We have
a mixture of both permanent and changing cask ales. Golden Best is the only permanent fixture, and while the IPA is available
most of the time, even it is subject to change. Pumps 3 & 4 change with every new cask, so there should always be something
new to try. Some ales make regular appearances, others less often, but very few make it only the once!.

can keep up to date at http://yourround.co.uk/BeerCam/Greetham/The-Plough/LE15-7NJ.aspx
We subscribe to CAMRA's LocAle initiative, and at least one of the beers on the bar each day are from
a brewery in the area. See www.rutlandcamra.org.uk for more details
Beers on the Bar
Timothy Taylor Golden Best This is our only
full time regular ale.
This is the last Pennine Light Mild from Keighley in the Yorkshire Pennines.
Copper coloured, 3.5% and very quaffable to boot. Don't let the 'Mild' tag put you off, this is a bitter drinkers'
Mild.
Doverbeck
Bitter, Caythorpe Brewery A proper brown bitter from the heart of Nottinghamshire,
Named
after a small stream in the village of Caythorpe, which I am assured by John, the brewer, that he does NOT take the brewery’s
water from.
Doverbeck is a round 4.0% deep amber-coloured beer with a lovely balance of hops & malt. Well
worth drinking

Camerons Strongarm Ruby Red Ale, Lion brewery, Hartlepool
A survivor of the industrial
North East, Strongarm is technically a ruby Mild, however, as others have, it has lost the moniker which tarred it with the
Mild brush.
Strongarm, at 4% has a wonderful rich red colour to it, and a fantastic full, round mouth-feel. The
aroma is slightly sweet with hints of toffee, and it always has a nice tight creamy head even without a tight sparkler.
The Lion brewery in Hartlepool was taken over by the Castle Eden brewery, who then closed their plant and moved production
to the far superior Lion site. Apart from Strongarm, and Camerons Bitter, they now produce the old Nimmos XXXX and Castle
Eden. The site also contract brews for a number of other major brewers. At the time of my last visit, Kronenbourg 1664 was
being produced, and they were contract bottling the ales of the Isle of Arran brewery

Dark Horse, Belvoir
Brewery
Classic mild with layers of flavours culminating in a fantastically rounded, malty
finish.
Proper dark ale with a lovely creamy coffee coloured head
At 3.4%, eminently drinkable.
In the mid 20th century, Mild outsold all other beer styles. In the 'Mass Observation'
study in the 1930's in Lancashire, the average pub sold 8 pints of mild to every one of bitter. With the arrival
of lager as a mainstream style, we will never see those statistics again, however, for all you lager drinkers, "come
over to the dark side."

Pub of the Year 2012 Pub
of the Season Winter 2008/9, Summer 2010
Proud winners of the Rutland CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) Pub of the Season - Winter 2008/9 awarded in February 2009 and runners-up
in the Rutland CAMRA Pub of the Year 2009 competition, as well as previous winners of Peterborough CAMRA's prestigious
HOP Award, and Gold Award, the Plough has not just been maintaining high standards for over a decade, but setting them, too.
Rutland CAMRA
branch chairman, Graham Proud said, "The Plough is a good all-round pub and won by a clear majority. It has a good
range of unusual beers including Timothy Taylor Golden Best which is hard to find around here and Ian runs all the pub games
and quizzes. The Plough is just a really good community pub." .
The Plough serves fresh, local food with a
special preference for the best seasonal produce, some of which, if not shot, reared, rustled or fished locally, may well
have been grown in our own back garden..
The Plough is not just a good beer pub, but has an excellent range of
fine wines, cask cider and specialist non-alcoholic drinks. The coffee is good too, so no need for the ladies or children
to stay at home!
Cask ales, fine wines, excellent food and good company
